Saia could open a large batch of terminals in 2024 as profits and revenue grow at the less-than-truckload carrier, largely on the back of facilities acquired from the estate of Yellow Corp.

Profits and revenues at Saia Inc. jumped in the second quarter of 2024 as the carrier continued to benefit from the collapse of erstwhile less-than-truckload rival Yellow Corp.

Saia Inc. posted a 19.2% increase in profits in the first quarter of 2024 but undershot analyst and market expectations, even as key metrics improved.

Reopening of former Yellow Corp. terminals quickened in recent days, with multiple less-than-truckload players introducing additional doors they bought at auction.

Saia Inc. expects 2024 to be another year of significant expansion after picking up business and terminals following the implosion of less-than-truckload rival Yellow Corp., executives said.

Saia Inc. posted net income of $91.3 million in the second quarter of 2023, compared with $109.2 million in the same period a year earlier, the less-than-truckload carrier said.

Saia Inc. experienced a 112% year-over-year increase in total earnings for the first quarter, the company reported May 2.

Saia has completed deployment of the new RouteMax mobile app to more than 3,000 city drivers across the United States, its development partner, HaulSuite, announced Dec. 8.

Saia Inc. reported large second-quarter increases in profit and revenue, helped by improved operating efficiency and the economic rebound from the COVID-19 recession.
